Oli Urpi

Head of Talent Acquisition and Employer Brand, Southern Water

Oli is a Head of Talent Acquisition who has spent two decades building world-class teams at companies like BP, Meta and GKN Automotive. A strategic leader with a knack for spotting top talent, he has a proven track record of delivering success on a global scale.

Off the clock, this Mancunian (and proud half-Italian), enjoys the active life in Hove. You can find him at the local CrossFit box, playing padel or attempting to catch a wave, and generally embracing the coastal lifestyle with his family.

What’s a recent professional achievement of yours that you are proud of?

Building a great TA CoE team at GKN Automotive that has transformed how the business hires, and bringing in talent that would otherwise have been missed.

What is your prediction for the future of the TA industry?

I’m predicting a shift in TA Metrics, from Cost-per-Hire (CPH) and Time-to-Hire (TTH) – to a big focus on things like Internal Fill Rate and Retention of High Potential Talent.

The 2026 TA Leader will be less of an efficient hiring machine and much more of a strategic business partner, leveraging AI to ensure their company doesn’t need to hire externally unless absolutely necessary and only then for any net-new skill set.

What projects are you planning on working on in 2026?

AI will be a big focus in 2026. Initially focused on repeatable tasks, but increasingly looking to leverage the ability of AI to identify and engage talent to allow recruiters to focus much more on being strategic advisors to the business.
