Mark has been in the world of recruitment for over a decade having started off in a non-traditional pathway of welfare to work before he joined in-house. Since then, Mark’s worked in the public sector and is currently in a University which is a charity. He loves eating extremely spicy food thanks to his heritage (half-Sri Lankan). He’s a proud Dad and is determined his son will support Arsenal and not Chelsea like his wife!
What’s a professional achievement of yours from 2024 that you are proud of?
Being a finalist in two categories: Recruitment Leader and Large Employer – Recruitment Team.
How has the RL Community helped you this year?
It’s allowed me to connect with others who often are going through similar challenges and thus, allows me to improve my own learning whilst also providing an opportunity to share myself with others which is great.
Finally, what is your prediction for the TA industry for 2025?
Once the scaremongering of “AI taking our jobs” settles down, I believe we are going to start to see a lot more levelling up with respect to Automation and AI. However, with those effiencies, we will need to ensure there is focus on mental health and wellbeing rather than filling the empty space in a room with more “BAU” work. I think we’ll see some teams reverting back to being more aligned within a function within a People portfolio/HR department or to a wider Professional Services and Operations/Corporate Services function in some settings. I also believe we will some shift in the types of recruiters we recruit and attract. I like to think of recruitment requests as mini projects and thus, a project orientated agile mindset and associated skills might be the way forward.
