Dave Burford

Dave has been in Talent Acquisition for more than 25 years, starting in the agency world long before LinkedIn was even a thing! He’s seen enormous changes in that time and the pace of that change has not slowed down. Dave is really interested in how best to implement AI in the TA process that enhances the experience of candidates, hiring managers and TA Partners. Another key area of interest is using data and talent market analytics to develop successful sourcing strategies to enable geo-expansion.

Dave is a lifelong Liverpool fan and in his spare time, golf is his passion.

What’s a professional achievement of yours from 2024 that you are proud of?
I’m incredibly proud to have led a team of super-talented TA Partners (all London-based) to build out a brand new Product & Engineering Centre of Excellence in Bangalore, hiring 140 new employees in a little over 12 months from scratch.

How has the RL Community helped you this year?
I’m very new to the RL Community, but take part in surveys and contribute to online discussions. I’ve also benefitted from the insights of various community members in helping me to formulate my own strategy for the future of our TA function.

Finally, what is your prediction for the TA industry for 2025?
My prediction for 2025 – I don’t believe that global geo-political markets are yet ready to enable a ‘hire hire hire’ mentality.

I think we will see cautious adoption of AI in the various stages of the hiring process against a backdrop of manageable hiring numbers.

I also think skills-based hiring will begin to develop but it will take time (well beyond 2025)
