Brendan Phelan is Head of Talent Acquisition & Relocation at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), where he leads efforts to attract, recruit, and relocate top academic, research, and technical talent from around the world.
With extensive experience in global recruitment and talent strategy, Brendan is passionate about building diverse, high-performing teams in areas including AI, sustainability, biotechnology, materials science, and environmental research.
He plays a key role in strengthening KAUST’s position as a hub of innovation, helping to drive Saudi Arabia’s research, development, and innovation goals by bringing in the right people to fuel scientific excellence and institutional growth.

As someone responsible for shaping the talent pipeline, Brendan takes pride in developing local talent that aligns with KAUST’s mission and Vision 2030.
What is your prediction for the future of the TA industry?
There are many trends and we are all aware of AI powered recruitment. Companies now more then ever are starting to rely on predictive data when hiring.
What projects are you planning on working on in 2026?
Our research centers are consistently evolving at KAUST so the scientific and academic pipeline always has to evolve.
